Under New Management!
While
the Safedrinkingwater.com website and newsletter look pretty much
the same this week, there have been big changes. As noted in last
week's newsletter, as of August 2, 2008, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. is
no longer the owner or publisher of the safedrinkingwater.com NEWS.
The same professionals who have brought you the best drinking water
quality news since November 2000 are now the owners and will continue
to bring you the NEWS. We also own and will continue to offer the
services of JobReservoir.com.
We
decided to do this rather than let the newsletter die, however,
there are some significant economic consequences associated with
our decision. Over the past 8.5 years and some 425 issues, we have
not charged one cent for the service nor have we had any paid advertising.
The total cost to McGuire Environmental Consultants, Inc. and Malcolm
Pirnie, Inc. to provide this free service has been over $1.2 million.
Publisher Michael McGuire believes in giving back to the profession
that he's loved for almost 40 years in providing this service, and
that the best marketing is to demonstrate technology
leadership in all aspects of his business activities. Given
that it will not be possible to continue doing this gratis, we have
decided to accept advertising for the newsletter and the website
to avoid charging a subscription fee for the newsletter. We
know that ads can be annoying and we will do our best to limit their
intrusion into the NEWS. These ads will generate revenue on a "cash-per-click"
basis, so your patronage of the advertisers will help us meet the
goal of continuing to provide the NEWS to our over 6000 subscribers
(…and
that number will soon be growing!!).
As
always, we are grateful to you, our loyal readers, for continuing
to subscribe to the NEWS and for providing us with feedback.
To improve your interactions with the newsletter, we will soon be instituting
a "water blog" on
the website with the ability for our readers to respond to our commentaries
and editorials. Jonathan Valdez will continue his
employment with Malcolm Pirnie and will not be able to join this
new effort. Many thanks to him for his tireless efforts to get
the newsletter out on time and to make sure we did not butcher the
Queen's
English too badly. Here is the old/new team that will be bringing
you the NEWS:

This week's NEWS
Perchlorate doesn't
make the cut on EPA's CCL list, but Senate committee moves legislative
overtures. Total
coliform incidents result in advisories... and raise questions. POU
device report from Minnesota may be informative beyond PFCs. One
source of NDMA formation in treated water addressed by research. Pre-flushing
of service lines before lead sampling is criticized.
