Publisher’s Note:

A few days ago we celebrated five years of publishing Safedrinkingwater.com NEWS. How could the time have passed so quickly? I looked back at the first issue, which said in the welcome statement, “Our intent is to make this newsletter the best and first source of news and information for drinking water quality professionals, with a combination of timely articles and incisive commentary from the leading observers in the industry.” I think that we have accomplished our goals, but I would like to hear from you. If you have any comments, please send them to safedrinkingwatercomnews@yahoo.com.

Our first set of stories in the newsletter dealt with hexavalent chromium found in elevated concentrations in several locations. The movie Erin Brockovich had just been released and everyone wanted to know what was going on with this emerging contaminant. We have linked thousands of stories since then. I think that it is safe to say that we have covered every drinking water contaminant imaginable over the past five years. EPA is on the verge of publishing the final Stage 2 DBP Rule and LT2ESWTR. This will usher in a new wave of water treatment plant modifications and enhanced water quality. We will continue to report how water quality professionals deal with these and other challenges.

It has been a great adventure and we are very grateful to our loyal readers for their support. I am personally in awe of the excellent job that Jonathan Valdez, Jennifer Smith, and Chet Anderson do every week putting out this newsletter. Erica Rosen is a more recent and vital link in the creation of the web and email versions of the publication.

Enjoy this week’s NEWS!
