This week's NEWS

New Orleans water professionals stay on the job even when they can't get to the job site. Ethics guidelines on human-subject research are proposed by USEPA. There's one small detail in addressing Gaza Strip water quality issues. When it comes to new water treatment facilities, biggest and firstest get the attention, whether it's submerged membranes or RO desalters. And while bigger is not always better, sometimes (like in rural areas) it is just plain necessary. Nominations for new (or re-newed?) NDWAC members are sought. While no one likes to see a violation of the SDWA, deliberate falsifications tend to really irritate regulators... and judges.

Perchlorate

  • Southern California city/county legal adversaries cooperate on control of perchlorate plume (San Bernardino County Sun, September 9)
Commentary: Do lawsuits on water issues make for strange bedfellows? "The city has filed lawsuits against San Bernardino County, the Defense Department, and about 40 defense contractors over perchlorate contamination of the ground...'The county's been very cooperative, a good partner with the city to ensure that the city is able to provide the water to our customers...' 'Everybody's suing everybody. But everybody's working together, too.'"
