Federal Updates

  • USEPA allocates federal DWSRF funds to states (Federal Register, June 24)
Commentary: USEPA used the recently released 2003 Needs Survey to allocate the $850 million appropriated by Congress, less about $15 million in mandatory set-asides, to the states for their SRF programs requiring a 20% state match.  Twenty-two states plus Puerto Rico and D.C. got the minimum of 1% ($8.3 million), which represents 24% of the total money, while their "needs" were 8% of the total in the survey. Texas had the biggest allotment at $68.8 million, and California was close behind with $61.1 million.
