This week's NEWS

Welcome to 2005. We hope that you all survived the transition from 2004, enjoyed the fantastic football and the traditional beans and/or menudo!

Tsunami-related drinking water issues rank very high on the needs-list! 2005 promises to be a full year for EPA...or a year full of new regulations. Boil water advisories are mostly precautionary but what are the costs? PPPPP axiom also applies to making changes in water treatment processes. If you want to get rid of any bad memories from 2004, get a bottle of blue water. It's cheap at half the price???

Perchlorate

Water Treatment
  • Oregon community changes treatment, faces multiple problems (Newport News Times, December 17)
Commentary: The military says "Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance" which may be applicable to avoiding "unintended consequences" by looking at all possible reverberations before changing water treatment processes. Newport reacted to increased DBPs and ended up with brown water. (Note: The chemical proposed for algae-control is an EPA- and NSF Std 60-approved material.)

Bottled Water

  • Enviros oppose bottle water....on environmental grounds (IRC, November 23, 2004)
  • Human psychology and bottled water (BMJ.com, January 2005)
Commentary: What more can you say? "His product was also nothing but the purest of pure water, in which the deliberately added substances had been diluted away beyond Avogadro's number, leaving nothing behind but their memory. The homoeopathic version of bottled water, which has had negative memories removed and replaced with beneficial energy patterns, is called 'Blue Water' and sells for 11 a litre."
