  • Massachusetts has completed 1700 assessments (98%) of PWS sources
    Commentary: While not the first state to complete its SWAP - required assessments, the Massachusetts DEP site is comprehensive, informative and easy to navigate.

  • Tennessee proposes a myriad of regulation changes; comments due by November 30th (PDF file, 33 pages)
    Commentary: If you're in the water business in the Volunteer State, you had better be reading these reg changes. There is something for everyone as it seems like every section is being amended. Wholesale changes in the SWP section. But you've got to admire the attention to detail as the proposed reg on monitoring turbidity for GWUDI sources specifies that recorders will be limited to 2 pens! And the section on requiring sanitary surveys provides a turnaround where utilities may be able to issue citations to the state: "(c) Sanitary surveys must be performed by the state. The system is responsible for ensuring the survey takes place." "Dear State: You are hereby commanded to appear on the 9th of November and survey our system. Failure to do so will............"
