This week's NEWS

The infrastructure is crumbling beneath us.....but nothing that $25 billion can't fix. The history of EPA's radium standard-setting plays a role in Florida lawsuit and public fall-out. Water security doesn't come cheap. Important meetings coming up and Drs. will learn about those darn "pyschosocial stressors." Groundwater contamination flows uphill... to the money. Aye, Laddie... you may be seeing a hint of the fluoride in your water soon.

Water Security
Microbiological Issues
  • Alabama city's bacti problem blamed on sampling (Mobile Register, September 9)
  • Rhode Island city mulls repeated boil water orders, actions taken and needed
(Providence Journal, September 9 - free registration required)
Commentary: These newspaper reports raise more questions than they answer, including: (1) Did the AL city really not know about the bacti problem until the state notified them 3 weeks later? and (2) Were BWOs in Rhode Island really initiated based on single, positive total coliform results? (probably not!) And... why do those poor little sample bottles get so much credit for positive bacti results?
