State Updates
  • State Reports on Water System Violations are now online: Commentary: A review of this handful of state reports illustrates how different the state programs are and must be, with the percentage of total Public Water Systems that are Community (vs. NCWS) varying from 13% in Maryland to 84% in Kansas. Monitoring/reporting gaffes continue to dominate the total number of violations in most states. Interesting tidbits include: Idaho's revealing explanation of the causes of violations and the decrease in the number found; Illinois' bifurcated program dividing enforcement between two different state agencies; differences in reports with some sticking to numbers of violations and others (e.g. West Virginia) providing exhaustive lists naming each system and each violation.
  • New Mexico's drinking water advisory group will meet on July 25
  • South Carolina gets EPA's tentative approval of its Filter Backwash Rule (Federal Register, July 11)
