This week's NEWS

Wow! EPA is really tightening up on their comment periods..........and on a hugely complex subject (Acronym Alert: GEMQUOIDI is here!) No, it's not GWUDI although that gets tested in Rhode Island.....but, why not in Vermont? How soft is soft in Florida? For want of a nail, the shoe was lost........for want of a decimal point, the "point" was lost in a Maryland CCR. Just what is the Point.....of Use/of Entry........both are now in the mix for SDWA compliance........but will the states go for it? E. coli  0157:H7 detection in minutes? Oh, if it could only be true. In Page, AZ, the play may be titled "Arsenic and Old Pipes."

Water Security

  • Potential of terrorist cyber-attacks appraised (Washington Post, June 26)
Commentary: While many experts do not believe cyber-terrorism is a huge problem for water utilities, an FBI spokesman's quote gives one pause to consider: "The event I fear most is a physical attack in conjunction with a successful cyber-attack on the responder's 911 system or the power grid." But what happened to clear-speak: ".....employ those techniques in synchrony with kinetic weapons..."  Say what?
